Truck fire on A1 near Hamburg leads to extended closure
A truck caught fire on the A1 motorway in the Hamburg area. According to initial reports, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, necessitating a full closure of the carriageway in both directions.
Hamburg fire department arrived with several engines and brought the blaze under control after roughly one hour. Cleanup operations then began, with damaged asphalt removed and the road surface temporarily patched to allow traffic to resume.
During the firefighting and recovery efforts, substantial traffic disruptions occurred. Queues stretched for several kilometres and persisted into the late afternoon. Police directed traffic via local detours and advised motorists to use alternative routes.
After the emergency measures were completed, the stretch was reopened. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire; so far there is no indication of deliberate action.
