Michael Jackson Biopic Reaches Billion-Dollar Milestone
The movie “Michael,” directed by Antoine Fuqua, has surpassed the one‑billion‑dollar mark at the global box office, becoming the first biopic ever to do so.
Since its April release, the film has received mixed reviews, partly because it ends in 1988 and therefore omits the allegations of child sexual abuse that were raised against the singer during his lifetime.
A contractual clause in a settlement between Jackson and one of his accusers forced the removal of already‑filmed scenes dealing with those allegations, leading to costly reshoots and a shift in focus toward Jackson’s relationship with his father.
Fuqua thanked audiences worldwide and hinted that a sequel covering the artist’s later years and the associated controversies is likely, given the film’s commercial success.
