The MP for Bolsover has announced that she is resigning from her post as the safeguarding minister.
In a statement she said that, at around the age of fourteen, she was groomed by an older acquaintance and subsequently raped.
She added that the lasting impact of the trauma continues to affect her and would impair her ability to fulfil the duties of the safeguarding role.
Colleagues from across the political spectrum expressed sympathy and stressed the need to provide appropriate support to victims of sexual abuse.
